A journal for my children of my life with them

This blog tells the story of my children while they are young.
I am constantly told, like by the stranger when my little one had an accident today in the library, that these moments go by so fast
(although I wished I could have skipped that one).
I can feel them slipping through my hands, all these little beautiful moments.
Moments when I get to be a child again because of their wonder.
Moments when their need for me challenges me (sometimes at the library) to be a better and bigger person.
Moments when I am faced with their pain and must rely on God for their needs.
Moments when I hurt because they are just so beautiful to look at, and even more often so beautiful on the inside.

I don't know if they will want to read these chronicles when they grow up, but I hope so. I hope this journal helps them to remember a childhood they loved, and family who love them

filling the empty spaces

Dorathea lost her voice this week but the house was not quiet.   Jonathan made more than enough sounds filled up all the empty spaces.  He laughed wildly when he said "Ju" for juice on Monday.   Playing thier own version of hide and seek he chased Dorathea around the house soon saying "Det" for the first time for Dorathea.  One morning as his head popped up over the horizon of the couch arm he said "Hi Dada!".  He has been one talking, walking, chasing, singing, catching, yelling, laughing ball of energy this week.

love

On Valentines day Sunday we were walking back in the house and Dorathea turned to me and said, "Mommy, I love you"  out of the blue.  "Oh," I said "That's sweet! What made you say that?"  she replied, "God".

Jonathanisms

Jonathan will get down on one knee when he wants his mommy put his hands together and scoot toward me saying "Mumaaaa!" in is low baby voice.  "Muma" cannot resist this.

love song

I was driving around with the kids in the back of the car.  We were listening to a song and the chorus was chanting "Yeah he loves me, yeah he loves me, yeah he loves me".  I hear Dorathea singing along so I turn down the volume enough to hear "Daddy loves me!, Daddy loves me!, Daddy loves me!".

Carol of the Pants

One of my favorite episodes with Dorathea happened over the holidays when we were getting ready to attend a Christmas service at church. I was trying anything I could to get her to get dressed to leave, so I sang to her.

Daddy: [singing to the tune of "Do You Hear What I Hear?"] "I have come to you bearing pants.... Will you put the pants on?"

Dorathea: [eating - not looking up - speaking] "No."

Daddy: [singing] "If you wear the pants we can dance... Will you put the pants on?"

Dorathea: [still eating - still not looking up - singing to the same carol] "I am eating berries."

Daddy: [singing] "We go to church to see a play, and to go you must wear the pants... to go you must wear the pants... Will you put the pants on?"

Dorathea: [singing - raising hands high] "I will put the pants on."

(I love my daughter! I look forward to more musical episodes!)

little girl secrets

I was in Dorathea's bedroom with her and we could hear Daddy coming up the stairs  "Let's laugh really like crazy Mommy" she said.  So we did, like crazy.  Ted walked in and said, "What are you laughing at?"  Dorathea laughed like crazy for another few seconds then said, "It's a secret Daddy".

The Apple Fairy Nov 2009

I found 5 apples under Dorathea's pillow as I was putting her to bed.  Each one had one or two bites taken out of it.  "Dorathea", I asked, "Why are these in your bed?"
"For the Apple Fairy, Mommy"
I thought this was funny but the next night after stories I my interest was peeked.
"Why do you give the old apples to the Apple Fairy?" I asked
"She takes them and brings me new apples!" she beamed.
